Country Show Coming To Cambooya

Singer/songwriter Johnny Greenwood coming from a rural background was influenced towards Country Music at an early age. After learning to accompany himself on guitar  and performing at local concerts, talent quests etc., he moved to the city to make a name for himself as a singer and entertainer.

Now a veteran of more than thirty five years, he has recorded around 120 songs and sold more than 100,000 units for record companies such as W & G, Sunset, RCA, EMI and currently records for Colonial. His biggest sellers have been his own ‘Goondiwindi Grey’ song which at one stage with RCA made hit parade charts and outsold singles by Elvis Presley, David Bowie and The Sweet in Australia; together with ‘Tibrogargan’, probably his most requested song about the old aboriginal legend of Queensland’s Glasshouse Mountains and trucking songs like ‘The Singing Transport Man’ and ‘My Dad Was A Road Train Man’. Later numbers such as ‘This Land’s A Part Of You And Me’, ‘He Kept It All Australian’, ‘Our Old Flag’ and ‘The Man In Black Has Gone’ (all his own compositions) have also proved popular.
Johnny has worked more than 3000 professional performances during his career in all types of venues in Australia and overseas in Great Britain, Europe, North Africa and New Zealand and performed alongside names like Marty Robbins, Slim Dusty, Lucky Grills, Smoky Dawson, Barry Crocker and many more. He has also appeared on numerous TV shows including Reg Lindsay’s ‘Country Homestead’ and ‘The Lee Conway Show’ etc.

A gold guitar finalist in 1993 for his ‘Jack O’Hagan’ song, Johnny is a multi award recipient eg: ‘Hands Of Fame Tamworth 1980’, ‘Qld. Awards Of Recognition 1998’, ‘TSA Songmaker Award 2003’, ‘Wall Of Honour Tamworth 2008’ etc. He has also been recognised in the ‘Walk A Country Mile’ exhibit in Tamworth.

On top of his recording and performing successes, he has also been successful as a songwriter, with up to 20 or so other artists recording his songs to date,  including Slim Dusty, Chad Morgan, Brian Letton, Terry Gordon, John McSweeney, Melissa Bajric, Dave Reynolds, Dean Perrett and Matt Manning.

Johnny is well established as one of Australia’s recognised true country artists and songwriters. He has sung quite a variety of country material over the years, but prefers the authentic style plus Australian songs and bush ballads and continues as a somewhat legendary figure in Australian Country Music.
