Hospice Chairman Mr Graham Barron, OAM, said the team at the Toowoomba Hospice were excited about celebrating the Toowoomba Hospice’s 15th Birthday on the 1st of July. “We will be cutting a 15 cake on Monday 2nd July to celebrate this wonderful milestone of providing free palliative care to our community”

Mr Barron, who has been a Volunteer with the Toowoomba Hospice himself for over 21 years, expressed his admiration for the achievements of staff, volunteers and supporters especially in the last 15 years, who have helped in providing professional palliative care service to the local community in a beautiful and peaceful home like environment.

“Toowoomba Hospice’s vision is to provide palliative care based on mutual respect, trust and individual needs, and I am proud to say that we do this very successfully with the support and commitment of our wonderful Staff and Volunteers” Said Mr Barron

Hospice Director of Nursing Mrs Allison Leech said Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problem associated with life-threatening illness. “At the Toowoomba Hospice we have a duty of care to provide the best care to reduce distress and pain. Palliative Care seeks to make the body comfortable enough to get on with the real business of living and dying. In the words of Dame Cicely Saunders, the founder of the modern hospice movement, who would have been 100 this year: ‘You matter because you are you, and you matter to the end of your life. We will do all we can not only to help you die peacefully, but also to live until you die’.”
