National Reconciliation Week 2019

It’s claimed that 6 in 10 non-Indigenous Australians have never met an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. That makes it difficult for the everyday person to understand the plight of those who are – in the majority of cases – less advantaged than most Australians.

May 27 marks the start of National Reconciliation Week 2019, an opportunity for non-Indigenous AND Indigenous Australians to learn more about and value each other’s past and present. It’s also a time to think about how we can reconcile our differences and consolidate our mutual strengths to create a better future side-by-side.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians.
