Join In Qld Day Celebrations In Toowoomba CBD June 1st

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) and City Heart Toowoomba, backed by the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce and Industry, are keen to tap into the Maroon spirit for a fun, family festival to mark Queensland Day on Sunday, June 1st.

This year’s Toowoomba celebrations are moving from Picnic Point to Toowoomba’s CBD in Margaret Street, between Neil and Ruthven streets, from 8am to 2pm in the midst of the Markets.

TRC Tourism and Events portfolio leader Cr Geoff McDonald said Council was pleased to team with City Heart Toowoomba to bring a festive atmosphere to the city’s CBD. There will be a flag raising ceremony and a range of entertainers, Cr McDonald said. “All the popular market stalls will operate with additional children’s rides and competitions in Margaret Street.”

He said “Prizes will be offered for the best Queensland Day outfit for boys and girls in primary and secondary school age categories and children will be able to enjoy free rides on the spinning pots and the traditional carousel. The Margaret Street Markets have been a welcome monthly addition to CBD activity on Sunday mornings and I’m sure the Queensland Day atmosphere will see a bumper crowd enjoying the day.”

Toowoomba Regional Mayor Paul Antonio is encouraging residents to show their state pride and celebrate the great attributes of the Sunshine State on June 1. “Queensland Day is one of the few public occasions on which everyone is invited to celebrate the good fortune of living and working in Queensland and especially across the Toowoomba region,” Cr Antonio said. “This is one way to join a family day out to mark Queensland’s founding and to show your pride in being a Queenslander.”
