Hanging Baskets Shine At Museum

Over 60 local artisans and gardeners, as well as school children, community groups and aged care residents have helped Cobb+Co Museum put its own twist on the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers festivities.

To celebrate Carnival, the Museum in conjunction with Yates, has been running a Hanging Basket design competition. Each basket has been lovingly created to the theme of ‘Power of the Flower’. From elaborate constructions, to bright and colourful floral designs, participants were vying to be crowned the winner in the following categories:

General;
Creative Design; and
School / Educational Group.

The experienced judges: Brian Ahern, State Sales Manager Queensland from Yates Australia; Paul Antonio, Mayor of Toowoomba Regional Council; Geoff MacDonald, Councillor at Toowoomba Regional Council; and Regina Albion, President of Friends of the Queensland State Rose Garden selected the winners.

Education A category (kindy – year 1):
1st –  St Monica’s Primary School
2nd – Grantham Primary School
3rd – Martin Luther Community Kindergarten

Education B category (year 2 – year 12):
1st –  Toowoomba East State School
2nd – Our Lady of Lourdes School
3rd – St Thomas Moore’s Primary School

General category:
1st –  The Brodribb Home
2nd – Emily Beal
3rd – Glenvale Villas

Creative category:
1st –  Angela O’Toole
2nd – Chinchilla Visitor Information Centre
3rd – Jo Broderick

Over the ten days of Carnival the Museum will have this delightful display of winner’s and entrant’s hanging baskets available to be viewed by visitors to the Museum. There is also an opportunity for visitors to select a People’s Choice winner from the 60 baskets being displayed.
