Ladies Day Makes A Difference…

Whilst the ladies sipped champagne and watched their men get tackled, $5,000 was raised to support the Toowoomba Hospice Adopt A Room Campaign.

Event Organiser, Ms Teagan Killen said Ladies Day for Toowoomba Rangers Rugby Union Club is an annual event for  wives, girlfriends, partners, mothers, grandmothers and any other female supporters “The ladies came along and enjoyed the festivities in the marque which was erected on the oval for the day, whilst enjoying some drinks and food and watching the guys tough it out on the field.”

Each year a charity is selected and funds raised on the day go to that charity. This year Rangers decided to donate the money raised on the day to The Toowoomba Hospice.  The Hospice was chosen this year because one of the club’s long-time supporters, Rob (Robbo) Armstrong passed away at the Hospice earlier this year after a short illness and the excellent care and compassion provided to him and his family was greatly appreciated, said Ms Killen.

Toowoomba Hospice Administration and fundraising Manager Mr Mark Munro said it was clubs like the Toowoomba Rangers Rugby Club that help us in our mission to provide quality care in partnership with the community for those with a terminal illness. “we rely on the support of our entire community whether it is community groups/clubs, businesses, companies or individuals we need their help.”

Mr Munro expressed his sincere thanks on behalf of the Hospice to Ms Killen and her band of helpers; who do a wonderful job in promoting and running the day each year. “The commitment and energy from Teagan and her team of helpers in putting on a day like this for over 100 women each year is a testament to the Rangers Rugby Club.   Raising money isn’t easy today and this fantastic donation of $5,000 shows their commitment in ensuring ‘Ladies Day’ is a great success for those who attend and for their chosen beneficiary -  I thank you!”.

A special Game Day Jersey for the A Grade team was designed with the charity in mind (Hospice butterfly on the front and back) and all the jerseys are auctioned off after the game.  It was with great pleasure that a cheque for $5000 was presented to the Chairman of  The Toowoomba Hospice.

The Toowoomba Hospice is located in O’Quinn Street, Harristown and provides palliative care based on mutual respect, trust and individual needs.
