Downlands Grand Piano Attracts International Pianist

On Sunday 3rd April at 3pm the Graham Centre at Downlands will be filled with the sounds of music by the Toowoomba Concert Orchestra, and guest artists – Ms Brachi Tilles (Piano) and Mr Spiros Rantos (Conductor). Ms Tilles will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.23 on Downlands College’s new Yamaha piano, accompanied by the Toowoomba Concert Orchestra under the baton of Spiros Rantos.

The program will also feature Schubert’s Symphony No.3, a selection of Brahms’ Hungarian Dances and Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances, and an eighty voice Downlands Community choir joining Spiros and the orchestra in a performance of Faure’s Pavane.

Spiros Rantos and Brachi Tilles are well known to Toowoomba audiences having lectured at the Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education from the late 1970s until 1985. Both Spiros and Brachi have performed to much acclaim throughout Europe, Asia, the USA and Australia. As conductor of the Chamber Strings of Melbourne, Spiros has just completed a sold out European tour which received standing ovations. Brachi has appeared as soloist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Rantos Collegium, Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra and the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, including their tour of Korea.

Spiros and Brachi are looking forward to returning to Toowoomba for the concert at Downlands. Mr Rantos said “Brachi and I always enjoy performing for audiences in Toowoomba, both in recitals and orchestral performances and I hope that through this concert at Downlands College we can share with Toowoomba our love of fine music.”

The concert will be held at 3pm on Sunday 3rd April in the Graham Centre at Downlands College. A percentage of the profits generated from the concert will be donated to the Toowoomba Flood Appeal. Tickets ($25 Adult/ $18 Concession) are available for pre-purchase from Downlands College (phone 46 909 500) and also at the door.
