Mystery Person In Toowoomba Flood Photo Safe

The photo  below was received by a local police officer from a member of the public overlooking the floods from the Grand Central Shopping Centre, looking on to Dent Street, Toowoomba on Monday, 10th January.

Fears were held for the safety of the person in the water but police would now like to advise the media and members of the public that the person was found safe and well. After extensive enquiries police have ascertained the teenage girl was rescued by a member of the public further downstream, and has requested she remain anonymous.

Eighteen people have died in the flash floods that swept through Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley, mostly in or near  Grantham. Floodwaters near Ipswich have claimed the lives of a man and a four-year-old boy.

Grave fears are held by police for another missing 12 people, believed to be from two families in the Lockyer Valley.
