Racing Qld & Qld Government Announce Extra Prizemoney

RACING Queensland has announced a prizemoney increase for Clifford Park – part of a $15.3 million boost for the industry across Queensland.

The boost – a further $1,500-$2,000 per race per meeting – is part of Racing Queensland’s accelerated Investment Growth Plan with the Queensland Government. The Plan will benefit almost 40,000 Queensland participants, according to Racing Queensland Chairman Steve Wilson AM.

Toowoomba Turf Club Chairman Kent Woodford said he was delighted with the announcement. “For many years, the Toowoomba Turf Club has been fighting for parity in prizemoney in comparison with other provincial clubs. “The announcement has been widely welcomed by the TTC and reflects Racing Queensland’s commitment to Toowoomba’s racing fraternity,” Mr. Woodford said.

Racing Minister Grace Grace said the increase was brought forward from the original plan to implement it from July 2022. “The Palaszczuk Government’s continued support of racing has seen a significant increase in economic contribution across the state. “With more than 12,500 Queenslanders now employed in racing – an increase of more than 1,000 over the past two years – the Queensland racing industry continues to make a significant contribution to the state’s economy,” she said.

TTC Chief Executive Officer Lizzy King said the Club was thrilled with the announcement. “It’s wonderful to see the Queensland Government and Racing Queensland funnelling funding straight into grassroots racing. “Any prizemoney increase is beneficial to industry participants involved in racing at Clifford Park,” Ms King said.
