Richest Ever Local Bowls Carnival

The North Toowoomba Bowls Club will stage Toowoomba’s richest-ever Lawn Bowls carnival this weekend when the 2019 $12,000 Great Northern Brewing Company Australia Day Open Prestige Fours is contested over 3 days at the North Toowoomba greens.

A capacity field of 32 teams (132 players)will play in the Fours carnival on Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th while a $500 Open Pairs shoot-out will launch the carnival at 5.00pm on Friday 25th followed by a Calcutta Evening for the competing Fours combinations.

Some of the best players in Queensland will vie for the rich purse, with State Junior and Senior players in action as well as a strong Darling Downs contingent. Early favourites for the event are the team being skipped by the 13th ranked Australian player, Sean Baker & includes Australian Junior Pairs Champion Jake Rynne along with Victoria Point champion Scott McLaughlin and recent BPL finalist Col Hayes.

They’ll face stiff opposition from the team led by Queensland representative Steven Tong; local favourites Jason Grundon, Chris Kiepe, Sean Kiepe and Gavin Bradford; past carnival winners at North Toowoomba Noel Corban, Paul & Jessie Slatter and Cal Brownie and the youthful composite side of State representative Julia Allen-Best, Jason Weir, Hayden Vogler and Josh Steffens.

Bowls enthusiasts are invited to attend any of the three days and enjoy great amenities and top class bowls action.

There are plenty of ‘dark horse’ teams in the mix as well with the Tara team of Matt Prain & the Smith boys not be discounted while Barry ‘Kiwi’ Hawken has assembled a side of past BPL finalist, so the line-up of talent is impressive.

Play is from 9.00am to 5.00pm each day with the Friday Pairs at 5.00pm followed by the Calcutta Evening from 7.00pm.
