Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Paul Antonio, councillors, Afghan community members, Mercy Family Services and TRC Community Development staff will be present at a welcome function on Monday, December 9th for members of the Afghan community.
Many of the women and their children have arrived via refugee and humanitarian channels and Council’s Community Development branch is working with Mercy Family Services’ Settlement Grants Program, Threads of Change (funded by the Department of Social Services), to arrange a city tour and introduction to Toowoomba.
The program also is part of Toowoomba Regional Council’s Refugee Welcome Zone initiative.
