Bushranger Cafe

(l to r)Volunteer Jody Dodds and manager Kristie Bazley working the coffee machine at the new Bushranger Cafe to be opened at Highfields Pioneer Village

On Saturday the 21st of September at 10am a brand-new attraction will open its doors at Highfields Pioneer Village, the Bushranger Café will serve amazing coffees, milkshakes and grilled sandwiches with a twist; all named after Australia’s infamous bushrangers.

The café (adjacent to the Village office) incorporates art by Australian artists hanging on its walls and the opening will feature bush band “Back in the Saddle” on the morning of the 21st. The new café will be open to the public every day from 10am to 4pm. Bushranger Café manager Kristie Bazley says “tickets to the Pioneer Village will be optional but we hope that café patrons will support the Village, and the services the café provides will encourage existing Pioneer Village patrons to stay longer as well”.

The Pioneer Village attracts over 38,000 tourists annually and many visitors are longing for something to eat after having travelled for hours to look through the Village – there are over 70 buildings of historic interest. Kristie says “the traditional Billy Tea and Damper will still be available everyday and for those craving their cappuccino and cake fix we will certainly be here (in the café) to help you!”.

Peter Homan CEO of Southern Queensland Country Tourism will officially open the café to the public.

Artworks by David Harriman and Jody Ashford will be on display for the Pioneer Village’s annual Steampunk Festival which will run over Carnival of Flowers Week from the 20th to the 29th of September 2019. There will be a full program each day of the Festival with working steam engines on display. For more information please contact the Village office on 07 4696 6309.
