As you would be aware, the unfolding situation in Afghanistan is rapidly deteriorating and the country is on the verge of a devastating humanitarian catastrophe.
More than 600,000 people have been newly displaced in Afghanistan since January 2021 and this crisis will lead the new displacement within the country as well as the neighbouring countries and beyond.
The UN has warned that without a significant de-escalation in violence, Afghanistan is on course to witness the highest ever number of documented civilian casualties in a single year since the UN’s records began.
UNHCR, as part of the broader UN country team and lead in protection and emergency shelter in Afghanistan, is well prepared to stay and deliver humanitarian assistance and support to the Afghan people in a complex, dynamic and challenging security environment.
